Inspired by his hobby of night running and the severe smog in Beijing, Zhijun Wang began making masks out of his sneaker collection, which combines utility and aesthetics. Initially created to gain traction due to its uniqueness, the masks became a symbol to raise awareness on the negative consequences that the smog brought about. Through Wang's untiring quest to continuously improve the masks throughout the years, he has handmade hundreds of variations.
Wang's sneaker masks have been selected as part of a permanent collection by MoMA and V&A.
